Kitchen Tricks: How to Replace White Flour

Have you decided to consume less white flour but don't know how to substitute it in your favorite recipes? We at Ecosem will show you how to successfully use whole wheat flour, as well as buckwheat and spelt flour, to achieve healthy and delicious results.
1. Whole Wheat Flour
This is the most popular substitute in baked goods. Whole wheat flour is rich in nutrients and adds valuable fiber to your products. It is important to know that desserts made with it tend to be a bit denser, heavier, and darker compared to those made with white flour.
-
Substitution Tip: Start by replacing each cup of white flour with 3/4 cup whole wheat flour.
2. Buckwheat Flour
Buckwheat flour is gluten-free, so a complete replacement of white flour with it does not always yield optimal results in standard recipes. However, buckwheat pancakes turn out superbly and work like magic!
-
Substitution Tip: If the recipe calls for 2 cups of white flour, use a combination of 1/2 to 3/4 cup buckwheat flour and 1 to 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour.
3. Spelt Flour
Spelt is an ancient grain, similar to wheat, but much easier for the body to digest. Our spelt products, stone-ground, retain all these beneficial properties.
-
Substitution Tip: For a balanced result, replace 1 cup of white flour with a mix of 1/2 cup whole wheat and 1/2 cup spelt. If you wish to use only spelt, the substitution is 1:1, but you should reduce the liquid quantity in the recipe by about 25%.
